Nik´s featured Kostas Kastanis and his Greek band. The music AND the food was great! The restaurant was sold in 2005 and then closed. Kostas still plays all around the country, and his CDs can be found at his web site.

Maria Bell moved the Greek Paradise from Fort Knox to a location on Story Avenue which was wonderful to dance in - lots of space. Maria then moved to a Frankfort Avenue location, and then moved back to Fort Knox area where she runs the Gyros Express.

IAMED was formed ten years ago to promote MED as an art form and they have become famous for their high-quality videos featuring the best belly dancers in the world. They also invite 'unknown' dancers to perform in their concerts and that is the category in which Ruric has been invited to dance. An honor I cannot afford, since I would have to pay my own expenses!

9- 11 PM: Ruric-Amari joins Flamenco Louisville, Camino Flamenco, Sueno Flamenco, Samovar Dance company, and *special guest* guitarist Ricardo Marlow in a concert of music and dance at the SpeakEasy Jazz Club at 225 State Street in downtown New Albany. A juerga (flamenco party) follows the concert. Many musicians will be participating; Guitarist Ricardo Marlow is coming in from out of town just for this event! Bring your dancing shoes and clapping hands and try your own flamenco moves with mini-lessons on the dance floor. We look forward to an evening of lively collaboration with friends from Louisville, Lexington and Southern Indiana.

Expect a great show from this unusual lineup: Ruric's passionate and joyous dance style is a perfect complement to flamenco's ardent and rhythmic intensity. Ruric will be performing a flamenco/belly dance duet with Diana Dinicola; a solo; and then a group dance with Anna and Theresa of Samovar Dance company.

Cover charge $7 for the entire evening.

9:30 - 11:30 pm: Ruric-Amari returns to the beautiful Caffe Classico in the middle of the lively restaurant and bar scene on Frankfort Avenue. Ruric will present four different short shows between 9:30 and 11:30 PM, each in a different dance style with appropriate costuming. Excellent cafe fare, beer and wine, and a delicious supper menu available until 11 PM. No pressure to purchase more than you want or to leave so another customer can have your table. Everybody has a great time! $5 cover for the entire evening. The Caffe is located at 2144 Frankfort Ave.

Ruric will be presenting an hour-long program on belly dance at Sullivan University's Moving Moods and Wellness Fair, 11AM - 12 Noon. The event is designed to encourage physical activity as a way to relieve depression, anxiety and loneliness. Also on the schedule that are of interest to dancers: demonstrations of flamenco, Fencing and Patanajli Yoga. The event is being held on the first floor of the Administration Building at the campus at 3101 Bardstown Road. Admission is free.

Students will be modeling traditional outfits from their respective cultures and from local designers as well. There will be dinner served from 7PM to 8PM. featuring food from a variety of ethnic restaurants around Louisville. From 8PM-10PM there will be a combination of fashion show segments and musical/dance performances. Students: Free with Cardinal ID. General Public: $5. Dress code: Semi-formal. To explore dance as a Gypsy you must understand the unusual 9/8 rhythm, allow it to loosen your feet from the ground, and evoke a joyous Roma attitude. Explore cross, side and back steps and add delightfully Roma hand gestures and soft pelvic motions to produce a joyful expression of dance. This is a 2-evening workshop.

We want to make this a night of music as well as dance. This event is open to all people interested in music and dance, including your friends and family; we have tables and chairs for those who prefer to sit, nibble and watch. Free Admission to the Easter Seals Firehouse Cook-off & BBQ Festival, 2- 10 p.m. at 9810 Bluegrass Parkway (rain date August 2). Event includes entertainment, BBQ Contest, inflatables, games for all ages, arts & craft booths, fire/safety/health booths, food, beverages and free speech/language and occupational therapy screenings for children and information about assistive hearing devices and hearing loss for adults. Firefighters will provide free cookies for children and have fire equipment at the event plus participate in a firefighter competition. All the proceeds from this event will be used to provide essential media rehabilitation to children treated at our center.
