Underlining

A fabric underlining adds stability and weight to the fashion fabric.

Underlining Toran Belt bodies

  1. Lay the belt body on top of the underlining fabric on the grain (width-wise or long-wise). Using the belt body as a pattern, cut out your belt underlining.
  2. Lay the belt body, face up, on top of the underlining fabric.
  3. Pin the body and underlining together at the dart locations, being careful to match top and bottom edges.
  4. Pin the body and underlining together at the edges.
  5. Stitch down the center of each future dart location. Make sure that your body and underlining stay lined up top and bottom.
  6. Stitch around the edges of the belt body with a 1/4" seam allowance, making sure that the edges stay lined up. It is OK to ease the body to the underlining a little bit but you should have to do much of that, since you just cut the underlining so it would be the same shape as the body.
  7. Press lightly on the underlining side when done.
