Underlining
Underlining
A fabric underlining adds stability and weight to the fashion fabric.
Underlining Toran Belt bodies
- Lay the belt body on top of the underlining fabric on the grain (width-wise or long-wise). Using the belt body as a pattern, cut out your belt underlining.
- Lay the belt body, face up, on top of the underlining fabric.
- Pin the body and underlining together at the dart locations, being careful to match top and bottom edges.
- Pin the body and underlining together at the edges.
- Stitch down the center of each future dart location. Make sure that your body and underlining stay lined up top and bottom.
- Stitch around the edges of the belt body with a 1/4" seam allowance, making sure that the edges stay lined up. It is OK to ease the body to the underlining a little bit but you should have to do much of that, since you just cut the underlining so it would be the same shape as the body.
- Press lightly on the underlining side when done.
